Goodwood Stained Glass Studio - About Us

Located in Palatine, Illinois, a northwestern suburb of Chicago, Goodwood Stained Glass Studio specializes in the design, fabrication and installation of architectural stained glass windows, ceilings and cabinet door inserts. As is often the case, owner, Richard Diens, got involved in this business quite by accident.

After graduating college, in the mid 70's, Diens began scouring flea markets, antique shops, garage sales, and antique auctions for nifty decor to furnish his first bachelor pad. He began seeing antique stained glass windows popping up from time to time, and became fascinated with these beautiful pieces of glass art. He knew a bit about cutting glass and soon was restoring and repairing stained glass windows for a number of antique dealers in and around the Chicago area.

Over the years, Diens has restored literally hundreds of old windows, and has photographed each significant window restored. As the supply of old windows dried up, he began making new "old" looking windows and as the saying goes, "has never looked back".

Our Philosophy
Actually, Goodwood Stained Glass Studio's philosophy is pretty simple. We believe that "less is more". We believe that we want each and every piece we create to stand the test of time and be enjoyed not just today, but for many years to come. Each commission we undertake is a journey between us and our client. We encourage our clients to actively participate in this journey. Our job is to listen to our clients, not dictate what we think they need, but rather transform their ideas and visions into a beautiful stained glass piece. There is no nicer compliment, than when a customer says, "that’s exactly what I wanted".

People ask, do we ever exhibit at shows? Yes, we do. Usually during the summer you will find us at some of the nicer juried fine art shows in and around Chicago. We will have a list of upcoming shows posted early next year.
